IAVM chair to visit the Philippines in August
James Glover, chair of the Institute for the Advancement of Vedic Mathematics (IAVM), a British-registered charity dedicated to the promotion of Vedic Mathematics worldwide will be in the Philippines from August 4 to August 30, 2023 for the “Inspirational Maths from India”(IMI) seminar series V and to sign MOAs with several local universities for the inclusion of Vedic Mathematics in their teacher education curricula.
The Philippines may be Mr. Glover’s favorite destination because of two main reasons. First, the Inspirational Maths from India seminar series is the longest continuing project of IAVM. In partnership with MATH-Inic Philippines, IAVM started the IMI in 2018 with sessions in Puerto Princesa in Palawan, San Pablo City in Laguna and in the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City.
“Inspirational Maths from India, a Teacher’s handbook” collaboratively written by IAVM trustees James Glover, Swati Dave, Marianne Fletcher and Gowri Ramachandran together with MATH-Inic Philippines’ Veronica and Virgilio Prudente was first published in the Philippines for IMI seminar attendees.
In 2019, IMI was held in Bacolod City, Iloilo City, Puerto Princesa City and in Quezon City with James, Gowri and local VM practitioners as speakers. In 2020 and 2021, the IMI were held online due to the pandemic.
Second, the Philippines has the greatest number of participants in both the 1st nd 2nd International Vedic Mathematics Olympiad.
In IVMO 2021, the Phillippines accounted for about 75% of the participants. In IVMO 2022, the figures were more impressive: 1716 out of 1866 participants from 9 countries came from the Philippines with the Filipino mathletes garnering 152 gold, 329 silver and 530 bronze awards.
The schedule and venues of the IMI seminars are still being finalized and so are the dates of the planned MOA signing with the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng San Pablo and the Palawan State University.
