Multiplication by 4
Doubling a two-digit number is the only skill needed to answer this question mentally in 3 seconds. Since 4 = 2 x 2. Young children who still do not know their times 4 table can use doubling twice to get the result.
This is discussed in Chapter 5 of my book “25 Math Short Cuts (available at https://www.facebook.com/MATHInicPhils for only P300). As what we have written before, doubling is also useful in multiplying by 4 and by 8 and in dividing by 5, 25 and 125.
Mastering doubling is also very helpful in understanding the binary system which is the basis of the computers and calculators that we now use.
Applications of doubling and its opposite, halving, are found in many questions in Vedic Math Olympiads.
